A penninsulia surrounded by Lavaca Bay and Matagorda Bay on the east, San Antonio Bay on the west, and Espiritu Santo Bay to the south; and on the same latitude as central Florida.
Calhoun County A great place to work, live and play. Calhoun County provides an excellent climate and all the necessary ingredients for productive industrial operations. Some of the area employers in our county are; Alcoa, Formosa Plastics, Dow Chemicals (formerly Union Carbide), Seadrift Coke, B P Chemicals, and Dupont is only 20 miles north in Victoria County. We have the Victoria Barge Canal and the Port of Port Lavaca - Point Comfort, which is one of the busiest ports, and the fastest growing ports in the United States.
The subtropical climate, seaside community location and close-knit community feel, add to the charm and attraction of a family-oriented lifestyle.

| Port Lavaca Seat of Calhoun County, on a bluff overlooking Lavaca Bay; important center for commercial and pleasure fishing, ranching and agriculture; port facilities and diversified industries. Miles of nearby swimming beaches, abundant bait and tackle shops, boat ramps. Waterfowl hunting during season. Golfers enjoy the challenging course at Hatch Bend Country Club. Wave Newspaper
Alamo Beach, a community two miles southeast of Port Lavaca and just north of the junction of Farm roads 2717 and 2760 in Calhoun County, is bound on the east by Lavaca Bay. A small growing historical bay front community currently under development.
Magnolia Beach is a natural beach fronting Lavaca Bay in central Calhoun County, with camp cottages built for summer visitors. The word Magnolia was added to the beach name to suggest the beauty of the setting since magnolias grow locally. This small village offers bird watching and fishing. Magnolia Beach has waterfront homes and a park. About 300 people call Magnolia Beach home.
Indianola Beach The port of Indianola, on Matagorda Bay in Calhoun County, was founded in August 1846 as Indian Point by Sam Addison Whiteqv and William M. Cook. Indianola is now the site of a small unincorporated fishing village.
Port O'Connor Closely tied to the sea, the town is home port to commercial fishing and shrimp boats, plus charter boats and a fishing pier. A wide variety of sea birds draws birders to this colorful community. Port O'Connor and Port Lavaca real estate is taking off with prices tripling in the last three years.
Seadrift is a shy, quiet little town, hidden in the Gulf Bend, with the proud distinction as the only city on the San Antonio Bay. Seadrift is located in Calhoun County, in Southeast Texas.
Palacios Fishing is the dominant industry, both sport and commercial, along with seafood processing plants. An attractive bayfront park that stretches along Tres Palacios Bay offers palm trees, picnicking facilities, and a spectacular 1.5-mi. railed walkway at water's edge. Other features include a pier with covered pavilion, fishing jetty, and boat ramps. Matagorda is primarily a getaway for fishermen and for people with weekend homes along the river or nearly deserted broad beach. Matagorda is huge and consists of East Matagorda Bay, West Matagorda Bay and Matagorda Bay - all growing and very economical. Sargent is located an hour southwest of Houston on the Texas coastline with some of best fishing spots. Real Estate is still under priced and taking shape. Many predict prices will start catching up to Galveston in a couple of years. Matagorda Island There is no electricity, concession, or drinking water on the island.
